Managing Periodontal Disease - Creating Healthier Smiles

Periodontal disease is an advanced form of gum disease, which can lead to permanent bone and tooth loss. Like gingivitis, symptoms begin with swollen or tender gums and bleeding when you brush or floss. However, our patients have also see a number of additional conditions develop, such as:

  • Receding gumlines
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • Tooth mobility
  • Soreness to pressure from biting or chewing

What Causes Gum Disease?

This condition is caused by hardened plaque and tartar build-up across the surface of the teeth and just below the gumline. When brushing and flossing do not remove the softer build-up, it calcifies into place. At Enso Dental, our dentists and hygienists will gently remove this build-up so that it no longer causes an infection. If left in place, the deposits will cause the gum and bone to creep away from the tooth.
Approximately 95% of the population has some form of gingivitis, but fortunately gingivitis is reversible. Periodontal disease is an advanced stage of gum infection that requires the help of a professional.

At Enso Dental, we offer in-house periodontal treatments like deep cleanings to help you treat and manage gum disease before it is too late. If you’re experiencing symptoms of a gum infection, and aren’t seeing results from brushing and flossing - contact us straightaway.
